The journal employs a double-blind peer-review system. Manuscripts are evaluated by at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant field, and the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the review process. The responsibilities of editors, authors, and reviewers are clearly defined. In matters of publication ethics, the journal adheres to the criteria and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Manuscripts are sent to reviewers, and two positive review reports are required for a manuscript to proceed to publication. If both reviewers provide negative evaluations, the manuscript is rejected. In cases where one review is positive and the other is negative, the manuscript is sent to a third reviewer, whose decision is considered decisive. The outcome of each evaluation, whether positive or negative, together with the reviewers’ comments and justifications, is communicated to the author(s). The review process takes an average of 45 days. Manuscripts that receive negative review decisions are not published. Manuscripts accepted for publication are carefully reviewed by the editors and, after being adapted to the journal’s publication format, are sent to the author(s) in their final form. Following the authors’ approval, the manuscripts proceed to publication.

The responsibilities of authors, editors, and reviewers are outlined below.

Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for the scientific integrity, ethical compliance, and originality of their work. By submitting a manuscript, authors are deemed to have assured the editors that the work does not contain plagiarism, redundant publication (including salami slicing), duplication, data fabrication, or any other form of unethical scientific practice. Authors must have obtained all necessary permissions for the use of copyrighted materials included in their work and must acknowledge the relevant individuals or institutions accordingly. All contributors to the study should be appropriately credited in proportion to their contributions and with relevant descriptions. Sources used in the preparation of the manuscript must be properly cited and included in the references. Individuals who did not contribute to the study must not be listed as authors under any circumstances.

Authors are responsible for designing and conducting their research in accordance with research ethics principles. Accordingly, members of the research team and participants must be adequately informed about the content of the study and any potential positive or negative implications. Participation in the research must be based on the informed consent of the participants or, where applicable, their legal guardians. Authors must ensure that no actual or potential conflicts of interest exist, and that all necessary approvals from the institutions involved in the research have been obtained. Authors are expected to retain the research data for a period of five years and to make the data available when required.

Authors must submit original, clear, and academically valid manuscripts that fall within the aims and scope of the journal and are prepared in accordance with the prescribed author guidelines. The submitted manuscript must not have been previously published nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere. All manuscripts submitted to Septem Artes are screened using the iThenticate plagiarism detection software, and an overall similarity rate of 15-20% is considered acceptable. Nevertheless, the originality of the submitted work remains the responsibility of the author(s). For articles derived from theses or dissertations, this must be explicitly stated in the first footnote.

By submitting a manuscript to the journal, authors are deemed to have declared that their work has not been previously published and that, following acceptance, it will not be published elsewhere.

Authors whose manuscripts receive positive review reports and are requested to make revisions are expected to complete the required revisions. If authors choose not to implement the requested changes, they are required to provide a clear justification for their decision.

Authors are obliged to inform the editors promptly if they identify any errors or inaccuracies in their work. Authors must support the editors with appropriate evidence in order to correct the error or, where necessary, to withdraw the manuscript from the evaluation process.

Editor and Reviewer Responsibilities

Editors base their decisions to accept or reject a manuscript for publication entirely on its relevance to the aims and scope of the journal, as well as on the significance, originality, clarity, and academic validity of the work. Where necessary, editors may inform authors about the suitability of their field of study and the relevance of their work within the framework of these criteria. Editors may reject manuscripts that fail to meet the required standards. Editors are responsible for conducting the evaluation process of accepted manuscripts in a transparent manner and for ensuring the confidentiality of the submitted work, including the protection of ideas, arguments, analyses, and other scholarly content contained in the manuscripts. Editors keep authors informed about the progress of the review process and maintain communication with them. They provide support to authors regarding questions or issues not explicitly addressed in the guidelines. Editors submit manuscripts, together with plagiarism reports, to reviewers who are experts in the relevant field. They inform authors about the outcomes of the review process, whether positive or negative, and provide appropriate explanations. Editors periodically evaluate their editorial practices and implement improvements in line with the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and other organizations that place ethical standards at the centre of scholarly publishing.

In cases where any elements contrary to publication ethics are identified in manuscripts that are published or under evaluation, the editors monitor the situation and intervene in accordance with the procedures recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure that the process is concluded in compliance with ethical standards.

Reviewers must be experts who have no conflicts of interest with the author(s) or the submitted work and who are capable of providing an objective evaluation. Reviewers are required to assess the manuscript carefully within the assigned timeframe (15 days), to justify their evaluations, recommendations, and decisions, and to prepare their reports in accordance with principles of academic courtesy and ethical standards. If the subject of the manuscript falls outside the reviewer’s area of expertise, or if there is any circumstance that prevents the reviewer from undertaking the review, the reviewer must inform the editors and withdraw from the evaluation process.

Septem Artes does not charge authors any submission fees.

Publication Ethics Statement Septem Artes conducts the entire process from the initial submission of a manuscript to its publication in a transparent manner in accordance with ethical principles.
